The Dolomites are marked by thousands and thousands of kilometers of paths, mule tracks and equipped routes of varying difficulty and length. Many of them, in addition to the extraordinary charm of the places they pass through, have an added value: a name and a history.
There are paths dedicated to pioneers or great mountaineers, and others dedicated to prominent figures in fields unrelated to the mountains, but who loved the mountains. Some dedications concern cultural personalities who have mountain roots or even artists who have left traces of their passage. There are numerous "Alpini" or "Kaiserjäger" paths, created by Italian and Austrian soldiers in very harsh environmental conditions on the front line in the run-up to and during the Great War. There are also widespread paths that recall the mountain activities of the past: from the miners to the mountaineers who collected and marketed snow and ice. Also fascinating are those that take you back to distant eras and there are also paths and places that refer to Dolomite fairy tales saved from oblivion.
This book describes 45 itineraries, considered by the authors to be among the most interesting from a hiking point of view and the most significant for the value of the "dedication" or history.
Mostly these are paths accessible to all but there is no shortage of equipped paths and via ferratas and a couple of routes that require mountaineering hiking experience.
