Climbing in Sicily
Five editions in almost twenty years, they give an idea of the evolution that the world of climbing has had in Sicily. In particular, after the explosion of climbing earlier in Palermo and then in Trapani, in the area of San Vito lo Capo, here it is the turn of the eastern area, with Canicattini which is emerging as the third Sicilian hub. Lots of new features, not just for cliffs but also regarding the bouldering and the deep water only.
The increase also of long routes, brought the project to separation between crags and multipitches (volume that will be released following the one presented here) in two different volumes, as has already happened to many other important climbing areas covered in our series.
A vertical universe described in detail with dedication and passion, a valid instrument, beautiful and full-bodied, for moving easily among the rocks of the island.
Massimo Cappuccio, born in 1966, climber, photographer and traveler. He started climbing in the early nineties and has been committed to the development and promotion of this sport since the beginning. In the Syracuse area, where he lives, he bolted the first sectors, opened several long routes (trad and sports) and created the first indoor gym. Organizer of the San Vito Climbing Festival and other outdoor sporting events. He has traveled and climbed in the most remote areas of the five continents, also making long mountain bike journeys, trekking and mountaineering expeditions. Even today, as a photographer and author of various editorial projects, he is committed to promoting climbing and sports tourism in Sicily
Giuseppe “Peppe” Gallo, born in Palermo in 1965, began his mountaineering activity over 30 years ago, developing a decent curriculum of ice and rock climbs in the Alps, the Apennines and above all in Sicily. National Mountaineering Instructor of the CAI, in Sicily he was the promoter of a series of initiatives for the care and enhancement of climbing sites and the diffusion of mountaineering activities. A great connoisseur of the Sicilian territory, he has created a long series of repetitions in this region as well as new openings. With Massimo Cappuccio and Daniele Arena he created and organized the San Vito Climbing Festival for 10 years.
