YOGA CLIMBING
The connection between the discipline of Yoga and conscious climbing
This manual aims to illustrate the connections between yoga and climbing, exploring not only the aspects linked to awareness of the body, breathing and our mental dynamics, but also contextualising them within the spiritual path of this age-old discipline. The objective is not only to show how yogic techniques can be aimed at climbing both on a physical and mental level, but also to demonstrate how climbing, experienced with an adequate approach, can itself become a form of yoga.
After an introduction in which the principles of Yoga are presented and its link with climbing is summarized, the book dedicates a substantial part to the description of the most important yogic postures (Asanas) and various sequences designed for climbers, explaining in depth their usefulness in climbing. Subsequently, various breathing techniques (Pranayama) that can be applied in climbing are described, to then analyze what the foundations of meditation are and how climbing can become a meditation in movement. This is followed by a chapter dedicated to yogic relaxation techniques and an explanation of how the ethical/moral codes (Yama and Niyama) of yoga can actually find a very current application in the world of climbing. Finally, various insights will find space in a vast appendix.
This guide is aimed both at those looking for a complementary practice in yoga to improve as climbers, and at those interested in entering the heart of yoga and having a deeper vision of their vertical passion. The second edition presents a notable revision and expansion of the previous one, in which those who appreciated the first version will be able to find many other techniques and food for thought.
